KanMed Baby Warming

Kangaroo Care made easy

The KanMed Baby Warmer system makes it easy for the hospital to offer Kangaroo Care. The mother can nurse and bond with her child at a very early stage. Babiesare often very unsettled when returned to the incubator following skin to skin care with their mother. The KanMed Baby Warmer is the best alternative to continue their rest in a comfortable environment.

Why Kangaroo Care ?
The important benefits of skin to skin Kangaroo Care are:

  • Stabilistation of the baby’s temperature
  • Increased oxygenation
  • Stabilisation of the heart rate
  • Fewer apnoea periods
  • Less crying
  • Longer and deeper sleep
  • Breastfeeding is achieved earlier
  • Faster increase in weight
  • Mother becomes confident in handling her child at an early stage
  • Shorter stay in hospital
  • The mother can nurse and bond with her child at all times
  • The baby feels like it is on its mother’s skin which makes the baby relax, sleep and develop well.
  • To create a feeling of safety and physical support, the water mattress is surrounded by the KanMed Baby Nest.
  • The baby nest facilities correct positioning and assists the baby’s development by keeping the shoulders and hip joints in alignment.
  • The KanMed Baby Warmer will keep babies weighing as little as 900g warm and cosy.
  • It is an important part of modern developmental care programme for premature and newborn babies.

Typical KanMed Babies

KanMed Baby Warming

3000g Baby who became hypothermic

Peter was delivered by a Caesarean section weighing about 2900g. Due to some minor problems causing a prolonged examination he became hypothermic, 35°C. His mother was not ready to do Kangaroo warming.

Peter was therefore placed in a crib with a KanMed Baby Warmer set to 37°C. After about 3 hours he was 36.8°C, very hungry and ready to come to his mother.

1400g baby in a standard crib

Olivia was born in the 32nd week weighing about 1400g. After a short observation period in the incubator, she was placed in a standard crib equipped with the KanMed Baby Warmer.

Due to metabolic problems she increased very slowly in weight. Thanks to the open system, her mother could actively take over a lot of the care of Olivia. She spent many hours giving Kangaroo Care and bonding with her child. She was never unhappy to return Olivia to the warm soft water mattress. Olivia spent more than 10 weeks on the warm open system.
